Driving fun

Ok so some of you out there know I've recently starting looking around for a replacement for the El Camino, and it has been found. In the next few weeks hopefully I will be ordering a brand new 2006 Mini Cooper S. It will be a 6 speed with the John Cooper Works package, possible leather and it's probably going to be white with black roof and black rally stripes on the hood. I've made my decision about this car after having a rental for a few hours today, this too had the works package. This car is FUN. Handles like a go-kart and does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and can carry 4 people if absolutely necessary

and yes the normal Cooper S gets like 25/32 mpg and the works will be less, I don't care about the mileage I drive a big block Chevy that averages 10 mpg on 91 octane, I've paid $330 for gas in one month. It has never been a concern nor will it ever be, performance over economy any day of the week. Before you say anything yes the Cooper takes 91.

I'll try to keep this thing updated if anything exciting happens.

My electronics are dying!

Ok first was my laptop hard drive, (that is probably on a plane right now headed for kansas for repair and upgrade 100gig!) and now my 5 disc dvd player died on me, wont load/play anything. $ony has an exchange policy for these units, they will trade my player for a refurbished one for $130! Thats crazy, so as I'm prone to do I went looking at ebay, but not for $ony, I'm moving up to Marantz, I need to match my receiver I'm currently watching two auctions, one is for a 5 disc changer for $200 BIN, and the other is a 301 disc changer thats up to $210 this one was the first mega-changer that was THX certified, and I like my audio THX'd. So if all goes well, I might be the proud owner of one of these players.

It's only been half a day that I haven't had a dvd player and I'm already missing it. I miss my laptop more but still... I was in the middle of Simpsons season seven.

It's a good thing I kept the old computer

I have an ancient computer (think 1996) sitting next to my tv, this computer is a Pentium II 300Mhz (Megahertz people!) with 128Mb ram (only?) and a grand total of 18Gb of storage on two hard drives...and a 19" monitor! I keep it running on some form of linux currently Mandrake 10.0 mostly for fun, not actual use because its SLOW.

The reason I'm lovin linux right now is because the hard drive in my powerbook died! No boot, no getting in to backup, no warning the drive was failing.

Todays lesson: Backup your data regularly

1. buy cds or external hard drive

2. backup data

3. discover what you forgot to backup (mail, bookmarks, pics, odd programs)

4. backup again

5. repeat in 1 month

Oh yeah these guys are going to be doing the hard drive replacement/data recovery

I'm upgrading from an 80Gb to 100Gb drive too

So I've found my next car

I would love to own one of these, but they are sort of impractical for daily driving.

if only I could afford a $45,000 car.

Oh yeah, 2.9 second 0-60

A warning to you check writing people

After reading this article you may want to consider switching to a gel based pen, or write less checks.

Happy New Years

Ok it's now 2006 and all I've done is play gran turismo 4 and kitten cannon.
This should be a good start to the new year. High score 1,035 ft. beat that.
